Day 10 @ HK : 2008年10月17日(五)
Mongkok + Tsim Sha Tsui
Early in the morning we woke up, prepared and went to meet Jean (deär’s ex-colleage) at Grand Century Place. We’re going to have dim sum! Yesss!! A place I’d always try to visit on every trip for my dim sum delights - Maxims Palace!
By 12.30pm, we had already finished eating, down to the ground floor, we saw this Halloween exhibition and took a walk inside.
~ 1.30PM - Back at the hostel
Had to buy a box from the post office to mail our things back coz we were anticipating that our luggage will definitely exceed the weight limit… so we spent the next few hours determining what we should mail back… and roughly gauge the size of the box that we need to buy. Then down to the post office to buy the box. The staff there were very helpful despite looking stern before we approached the counter.
~5 PM
We went out, towards Mongkok centre area. I thought of buying a batt for my pedometer, but had no chance to buy it over the past few days, wanted to count how many steps we actually walked each day! Passed by a small watch shop, thought they should have and went in and enquired in mandarin.
Me: Excuse me, do you have the flat battery CR2032?
Man: oh yah, yes… (took out a box and found the batt).. Is this the one?
Me: arhh yes, how much is it?
Man: hhmm… like that arh… like that charge you 30 dollars lah…
Me: huh? $30? I only need one batt leh, not all 5 of them…
Man: yah lah! I’m selling you only one, you think all 5 for $30 arh?
Me: oh… thank you. I don’t need it anymore (n walked out)
What’s that… this man was obviously trying to cheat me knowing I’m a tourist! A batt that cost about sgd6?! Is the batt made of pure gold? Goodness me… I knew that he wasn’t honest when he was saying “like that arh…” He’s just thinking how much he can jack up the price…
Walked out and later enquired a few other shops, but they do not carry the batt.
Just as I passed by an Optical 88, I reminded deär that he’s got a screw missing from his shades, so probably he could go in and ask them to replace one for him. While doing the replacement, I took a walk round, and then thought I should get a pair of new shades that I’ve been wanting to get for ages… Ages = years…
Didn’t want to get anything too expensive, yet I want to get a good one coz all the previous cheapos that I bought are giving me headaches, I become dizzy a few minutes after wearing those shades… Thought that Singapore will be selling those more branded shades for more than sgd100 or close to $200… n I really can’t bring myself to buy something sooo expensive… So I only browsed through the items on sale… and found one not too bad de… from Titus… tried it on… deär said not bad, later I asked the optician got any more of such price range de. He got me another one slightly more expensive, but it felt better…
Really, a better pair of shades felt good… after trying the 2 for a while, decided to get the more expensive one since deär said it looked nicer. Moreover, it was under our budget, less than sgd100 I got it for… I put it on for a while when we got outside, oh yeah!! It provided real good protection compared to my previous shades and I don’t get dizzy! But then, it’s evening already, no need for sunglasses…
~ 6:10PM – Tsim Sha Tsui
We strolled to the Knustford Terrace where we thought of having dinner, haven’t been there before and guessed it should be quite a nice place to eat. However, after reaching there 20 minutes later, we decided against it, the restaurants look expensive and after walking to the end, I have no feel for any of the restaurants. I wanted to eat something different, but I cannot pinpoint what it was… I must see it to feel it!!
~ 6:45PM
We carried on walking, till I saw this restaurant that has a poster of hairy crab @ $28 each… that’s it! I knew we had found it, so me n dear went in. Once we stepped in, we were like errr…. How come no customers inside? We were brought to a corner where we saw just another couple eating steamboat. So… in total, inclusive of us, 4 customers in total. We sat a table away from them. First time trying steamboat in HK, as we looked at their menu, we were slightly stunned… it doesn’t look that cheap wor… we spent about a good 10 minutes trying to decide on what to order, they are all ala-carte items, not like we have buffet or set kind. They tried to sell us all the expensive stuff, which we thought of all excuses to evade. Finally, we only ordered 2 hairy crabs, a plate of cheese sausage, wanton and fish roll. Soup base we chose the cheapest, yuen yeung soup base. They recommended their sweet corn juice which we ordered a jug, it’s good!
This lady helped us with the fish roll, we didn’t really know how to squeeze it out, n initially I squeezed out bit by bit. Later, she came to help me with it, which I’m so thankful. Else I got no time to eat! Whahah
Close up of our twin hot pot…
Our hairy crabs finally here!! Hottt!!!
Do not be misled by the size, it’s actually very small, to 1st timers like us, we were stunned…
However, when we ate the crabs, we were quite certain, the 蟹黄is the 精华… for someone like me who usually do not touch them, they ‘re super delicious!
When we were quite done with our food, we realized that the whole restaurant was filled up with pple, except for the table beside us. So it’s not a “black shop” after all… we were just early for our dinner…
The bill totaled up to over $300… woah… that’s not cheap huh… the hairy crab was the cheap one, but the steamboat was not, I think it should be cheaper for more pple to eat, mb that’s why majority of the tables were meant for big groups.
This was where we had our steamboat + hairy crab!
9PM – Miramar Shopping Centre
I “punished” deär by taking this photo outside the washroom coz he said he couldn’t find tissue papers earlier on at the steamboat restaurant, searched here n there n couldn’t find. So when we’re back here at the shopping centre, I wanted to go wash my hands and he found the tissue in his right jeans pocket! Because it’s covered by his pouch, he didn’t look there… duhh!!
~10:20PM
Took desserts at this place. Had my favourite 杨枝柑露!
Who knows when we’re taking the MTR from TST, there was a delay in the trains! Some technical fault… first time we came across such situations in hk… so many first times this trip. For such a fast pace country like hk, I think they really cannot afford to have such delays. We even saw a reporter and a cameraman running about trying to get news.
In the end, we decided not to wait anymore, coz we waited 10 minutes for 1 train to come and we could not get ourselves in it. No point waiting for another one since the human traffic was terrible. As it’s a fri night, we couldn’t get a taxi too. So we took a stroll down Nathan road towards Mongkok direction, we reached a bus stop and was lucky enough to hop onto 1 that brought us nearer our destination.
Reached our hostel just before midnight… We did not want to leave hk!!! We wana stay on further!!!
Spent the night arranging and packing our luggage, taking photos of our victories… deär’s victories!
My victories!
As usual, I couldn’t help, but I need to take close ups lah, individuals lah… bla bla… must 摆美美la… hhmm.. I thought I didn’t want to buy so many things this trip? Fortunately I took a photo of my skincare on 12th Oct le… else I really no need to sleep… ;p
